Description

These apple crumble slices are a delightful treat, perfect for a cozy autumn afternoon or a casual brunch. The combination of a buttery crust, a sweet and cinnamon-spiced apple filling, and a crumbly topping makes them irresistible. I've been making these for years, and they always disappear quickly! They're easy to prepare, especially with the Thermomix®, and the aroma while baking is simply divine. Feel free to use different apple varieties for a unique flavor twist. These slices are best enjoyed warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Ingredients (12 ingredients)

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cups shortening
  • 4 piece egg yolks
  • 8 tbsp cold water
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 7 cups finely chopped apples
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 0.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp milk

Preparation (12 steps)

Prepare the oven

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Combine dry ingredients

Add 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt to the Thermomix bowl. Mix for 10 Sec./Stufe 4 to combine.

Cut in shortening

Thermomix® Setting
20 sec/Speed 3

Add 1 cup of shortening to the Thermomix bowl. Mix for 20 Sec./Stufe 3 until coarse crumbs form. Use the spatula to scrape down the sides of the bowl if needed.

Combine wet ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together 4 egg yolks, 8 tablespoons of cold water, and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Combine wet and dry ingredients

Pour the wet ingredients into the Thermomix bowl with the flour mixture. Mix for 15 Sec./Stufe 3 until the dough comes together into a ball. Add more water if needed, 1 tablespoon at a time.

Divide and roll out dough

Divide the dough in half. Roll out one half and press it into the bottom of a 10x15-inch baking pan. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Prepare apple filling

In a separate bowl, combine 7 cups of finely chopped apples, 2 cups of white sugar, 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour, and 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Spread filling

Spread the apple filling evenly over the dough in the pan. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Roll out top crust

Roll out the remaining dough and lay it on top of the filling. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Brush with milk and cut slits

Brush the top crust with 1 tablespoon of milk. Cut slits in the dough with a sharp knife to allow steam to escape. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Bake

Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, 45 to 50 minutes. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Cool and cut

Cool before cutting into 24 bars, at least 20 minutes. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.
