Classic mac and cheese with bacon.

Ingredients (17 ingredients)

  • 300 g Elbow macaroni
  • 100 g Belly bacon, sliced
  • 30 g Butter
  • 3 tbsp Flour
  • 300 ml Milk
  • 100 ml Whipping cream
  • 120 g Cheddar, grated
  • 100 g Appenzeller or Gruyere, grated
  • 50 g Parmesan, grated
  • 0.5 tsp Smoked paprika powder
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Nutmeg, grated
  • Cheese for gratinating
  • Chives for sprinkling

Preparation (9 steps)

Fry bacon

Fry bacon in a separate pan until crispy and drain on kitchen paper.

Melt butter

Prepare cheese sauce

Gradually add milk and whipped cream and stir for 5 min./90°C/stage 3 until a smooth, creamy sauce is formed.

Add cheese and season

Thermomix® Setting

Add Cheddar, Appenzeller or Gruyere and Parmesan and stir for 2 min./60°C/stage 2. Season with paprika powder, garlic powder, mustard, salt, pepper and nutmeg.

Mix macaroni

Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions, drain and stir into the cheese sauce.

Mix in bacon

Coarsely crumble the crispy bacon and mix in.

Bake (optional)

If desired, sprinkle with some grated cheese and bake or grill briefly until the crust is golden brown.

Serve

Sprinkle with chives and serve hot immediately.
