Description

These sesame glazed chicken bites are a delightful and easy-to-make dish, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a fun appetizer. I've been making this recipe for my family for years, and it's always a hit! The chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, coated in a tangy and savory lemon-sesame sauce. Ingredients (14 ingredients)

  • 600 g chicken breast fillets
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
  • 5 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch white pepper
  • 1 piece egg
  • 2 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil
  • 2 piece spring onions
  • 2 tsp cornflour
  • 2 piece unwaxed lemons
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tsp sesame oil

Preparation (5 steps)

Prepare the lemon sesame sauce

Add 2 tsp cornflour, zest and juice of 2 unwaxed lemons, 2 tbsp honey, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tsp sesame seeds, and 2 tsp sesame oil to the mixing bowl. Mix until well combined. Set aside.

Prepare the chicken batter

In a large bowl, combine 2 tbsp cornflour, 5 tbsp plain flour, 1 tsp baking powder, ¼ tsp salt, and a large pinch of white pepper. Add 1 beaten egg and 4 tbsp water. Mix well. Add 600g chicken breast fillets, cut into bite-sized pieces, and gently toss to coat.

Fry the chicken

Heat 2 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil in a large skillet over high heat. Fry the battered chicken pieces in batches for about 6 minutes per batch, until golden and cooked through. Remove the cooked chicken and transfer to a plate or tray lined with kitchen paper.

Combine chicken and sauce

Return all the cooked chicken to the skillet, still over high heat. Pour in the lemon sesame sauce and toss to coat. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and clings to the chicken.

Serve

Scatter with 2 spring onions, thinly sliced, and serve immediately with cooked noodles, if desired.
