Description

This Tomato Garlic Chutney is a spicy and aromatic dip that is perfect as an appetizer or finger food. With simple ingredients such as tomatoes, garlic, chili and spices, it is quick to prepare and offers a versatile addition to many dishes. Ideal for vegans and vegetarians looking for a flavorful and spicy addition. The preparation time is approx. 25 minutes.

Ingredients (7 ingredients)

  • 0.5 Tasse Garlic (peeled and finely chopped)
  • 1 Tasse Tomato paste
  • 4 EL Red chili powder
  • 0.5 Tasse Oil (e.g. sesame oil, peanut oil or neutral vegetable oil)
  • 0.5 TL Mustard seeds
  • 1 TL Cumin seeds
  • 0.5 TL Salt

Preparation (6 steps)

Prepare tomatoes

Roughly chop the tomatoes.

Puree tomatoes

Put the roughly chopped tomatoes in the mixing bowl and process for 15 sec/level 8 into a thick puree. Do not add water.

Roast mustard and cumin seeds

Heat 0.5 cup of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add 0.5 tsp mustard seeds and 1 tsp cumin seeds and wait until they start to “pop”.

Add garlic

Once the seeds are aromatic, add 0.5 cup of chopped garlic and sauté briefly.

Let the mixture simmer

Add the tomato puree mixture, 1 cup tomato puree, 4 tbsp red chili powder and 0.5 tsp salt to the pan. Simmer over low to medium heat for 10–15 minutes until thickened and the oil separates on the sides.

Cool and Serve

Remove from the heat and let it cool down a little. The chutney can be served raw or filled into an airtight container - with sufficient oil it will keep in the refrigerator for up to about a month.
