Description

This braised chicken in tomato sauce is a comforting and flavorful dish that's perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner. I've been making this recipe for years, and it's always a hit with my family. The chicken breasts are browned to perfection and then simmered in a rich tomato sauce with a hint of sweetness and spice. It's so easy to prepare, especially with the Thermomix®, and the result is tender, juicy chicken that's bursting with flavor. Serve it with rice, pasta, or mashed potatoes for a complete and satisfying meal. This dish is also great for meal prepping – it tastes even better the next day!

Ingredients (16 ingredients)

  • 6 piece skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 14.5 ounce can stewed tomatoes, with liquid
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp distilled white vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 0.5 tsp celery seed
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 0.125 tsp hot pepper sauce

Preparation (7 steps)

Prepare the flour mixture

In a shallow dish or bowl, combine ¼ cup all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon salt, and a pinch of ground black pepper. Mix well and set aside.

Coat the chicken breasts

Coat the 6 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves with the flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly covered. Set aside.

Brown the chicken breasts

Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the chicken breasts on all sides until golden brown. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels. This step is done outside the Thermomix to achieve proper browning.

Prepare the tomato sauce

Add 1 clove of minced garlic to the mixing bowl and chop for 3 Sec./Stufe 7.

Add remaining sauce ingredients

Add 1 (14.5 ounce) can of stewed tomatoes (with liquid), ½ cup water, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar, 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons chili powder, 1 teaspoon mustard powder, ½ teaspoon celery seed, and ⅛ teaspoon hot pepper sauce to the mixing bowl.

Simmer the sauce

Cook the sauce for 5 Min./100°C/Stufe 2.

Add chicken and simmer

35 min/212°F/Linkslauf Speed 1 100 Reverse

Return the browned chicken breasts to the mixing bowl with the sauce. Cook for 35 Min./100°C/Linkslauf Stufe 1, or until the chicken is tender, no longer pink, and the juices run clear.
