These potato dumplings in spicy bell pepper sauce are a hearty and filling dish that tastes particularly good on colder days. The sauce gets a beautiful depth and spice from roasting the tomato paste and the hot paprika powder. I like to make this dish when I want to cook something hearty and simple. About this recipe

Potato dumplings in bell pepper sauce - a dish that evokes childhood memories for me. My grandma always cooked it when the weather outside was uncomfortable. It's a simple, down-to-earth meal, but the flavors of the bell pepper and the slight spiciness of the paprika powder make it something special. I have adapted her recipe a little over the years and with the Thermomix® the preparation is now even faster and easier. The basis of this dish is of course the potato. The dumpling dough, preferably half and half, i.e. made from raw and cooked potatoes, ensures a nice consistency. It should not be too sticky, but not too dry either, so that the dumplings do not fall apart when frying. The vegetable onion forms the aromatic foundation of the sauce. It is finely chopped in the Thermomix® and then sautéed in oil to release its sweetness. The red bell peppers not only add color, but also a slight sweetness and freshness to the sauce. The tomato paste is roasted to develop roasted aromas and reduce the acidity. The hot paprika powder is the heart of the seasoning. You should pay attention to quality here, because it largely determines the taste of the sauce. The vegetable broth serves as the base for the sauce and rounds off the flavors. The Thermomix® makes preparing the sauce child's play. First, the onions are chopped and sautéed. Make sure that the onions do not turn too brown, otherwise they may taste bitter. Then add the bell pepper cubes and sauté briefly. Roasting the tomato paste and paprika powder is an important step to intensify the flavors. Make sure the tomato paste doesn't burn. After deglazing with the vegetable broth, the sauce simmers in the Thermomix® while you can take care of the dumplings. For a vegetarian version, you can simply make sure that the vegetable broth is really vegetarian. If you like it vegan, you can replace the dumpling dough with a vegan version. You can of course vary the spices. A little garlic, caraway or marjoram go perfectly with the bell pepper sauce. If you like it even spicier, you can also add chili powder or fresh chili. The fried potato dumplings are served with the spicy bell pepper sauce. A fresh salad goes well with this, for example a green salad with vinegar and oil or a coleslaw. If you like it more hearty, you can add bacon cubes or smoked tofu to the sauce. A dollop of sour cream or yogurt on the dumplings provides a creamy note. The bell pepper sauce can be prepared well in advance and stored in the refrigerator. It can also be frozen. The fried dumplings taste best fresh, but can also be stored in the refrigerator and reheated later.
