Description

This hearty onion cake from the Thermomix® is a savory main course with onions, bacon, and a simple yeast dough made from flour, milk, and butter.   • 400 g Flour
  • 1 Würfel Fresh yeast
  • 200 ml Milk
  • 100 g Butter/ Margarine
  • 1 TL Salt
  • 1 kg Onions
  • 200 g Streaky cured bacon
  • 60 g Butter/Margarine
  • Salt/Pepper
  • Caraway
  • 250 g Sour cream
  • 2 Stück Eggs
  • 2 Stück Egg yolk

Preparation (8 steps)

Prepare yeast dough

Add flour, crumbled yeast, and salt to the mixing bowl. Add lukewarm milk and knead for 2 minutes/kneading stage to form a loose yeast dough.

Let yeast dough rise

Place the yeast dough in a bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.

Prepare onions

Cut the onions into rings.

Fry bacon and sauté onions

Dice the bacon and render it in a separate pan. Add butter/margarine and sauté the onions in it. Season generously with salt, pepper, and caraway.

Roll out yeast dough

Briefly knead the yeast dough and roll it out on a greased baking sheet. Let rise for about 15 minutes.

Distribute topping

Spread the onion mixture evenly on the yeast dough.

Prepare and distribute custard

Mix together sour cream, eggs, and egg yolk and pour over the onions.

Baking

Bake the onion cake in a preheated oven (electric oven: 200°C/convection oven 175°C) for about 35-40 minutes.
