Description

These vegetarian crispy strips are a delightful and easy-to-make snack or appetizer. I've been making these for years, and they're always a hit! The seitan strips are coated in a flavorful blend of spices and breadcrumbs, then air-fried to golden perfection. They're crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a satisfying savory and slightly spicy kick. Perfect for a quick lunch, game day snack, or a fun addition to any party spread. You can easily adjust the spice level to your liking. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce for an extra burst of flavor!

Ingredients (11 ingredients)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 piece eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups panko bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.75 tsp paprika
  • 0.5 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 tsp ground black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp chili powder
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 32 ounce imitation chicken breast halves (seitan), cut into 1-inch wide strips

Preparation (5 steps)

Prepare the flour

Pour flour onto a large plate. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Prepare the eggs

Place eggs in a shallow bowl. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Combine bread crumbs and spices

Combine bread crumbs, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, chili powder, and salt in another shallow bowl. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Coat the imitation chicken strips

Coat imitation chicken strips in flour, dip into eggs, then dredge in bread crumb mixture, and place on a plate. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.

Air fry the coated strips

Heat an air fryer to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C). Place a row of coated strips in the air fryer basket. Spray with a light coat of cooking spray. Cook strips in the air fryer for 6 minutes. Open fryer to flip strips with tongs. Continue cooking until golden brown, 4 to 6 minutes more. No Thermomix settings are needed for this step.
