Description

This Thermomix® recipe for meatballs in tomato mozzarella sauce is a hearty main course with ground meat, mozzarella, and tomatoes. Preparation in the Thermomix® takes about 50 minutes, of which 30 minutes are active working time. The recipe is designed for 4 servings and is ideal as a warm, Italian-inspired family meal. Refined with Italian herbs and fresh mozzarella, this casserole offers Mediterranean enjoyment.

Ingredients (19 ingredients)

  • 500 g Ground meat half and half - pork/beef
  • 380 g Buffalo mozzarella (200 g drained weight) - alternatively cow's milk mozzarella
  • 2 EL Breadcrumbs
  • 1 EL Mustard
  • 1.5 TL Salt
  • 0.5 TL Black pepper from the mill
  • 1 TL Italian herbs, dried
  • 400 g Whole canned tomatoes
  • 200 g Cream
  • 50 g Parmesan
  • 50 g Onions
  • 1 Stück Egg, size M
  • 1 Zehe Garlic
  • 1 EL Olive oil
  • 2 EL Tomato paste
  • 2 TL Oregano
  • 1 TL Sugar
  • 0.5 TL Salt
  • 0.125 TL Black pepper from the mill

Preparation (11 steps)

Preheat oven

Preheat the oven to 180 °C convection in good time.

Chop onion and garlic

Place 50 g of onions in the mixing bowl and chop for 3 sec/level 5. Then add the 1 clove of garlic and chop for 3 sec/level 7.

Sauté onion and garlic

Thermomix® Setting
2 min/248°F/Speed 1 120

Add 1 tbsp olive oil to the onions and garlic in the mixing bowl and sauté for 2 min/120°C/level 1.

Prepare tomato sauce

Thermomix® Setting
20 sec/Speed 8

Add 400 g whole canned tomatoes, the remaining cream (approx. 170 ml), 2 tbsp tomato paste, 2 tsp oregano, 1 tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp black pepper from the mill to the mixing bowl and purée for 20 sec/level 8.

Grate Parmesan

Place 50 g Parmesan in the mixing bowl and grate for 10 sec/level 8. Transfer.

Mix tomato sauce with Parmesan

Thermomix® Setting
10 sec/Speed 2

Add the pureed tomato sauce and grated Parmesan to the onions in the mixing bowl and stir for 10 sec/level 2.

Prepare ground meat

In a bowl, whisk together 3 tbsp of cream, 1 egg, 1 tbsp mustard, 2 tbsp breadcrumbs, 1.5 tsp salt, 1 tsp Italian herbs and ½ tsp black pepper from the mill with a whisk.

Shape meatballs

Briefly knead the 500 g of ground meat with the spice sauce and form approx. 4 cm meatballs, possibly with an ice cream scoop, and place directly into the casserole dish (does not need to be greased).

Pour sauce over meatballs

Pour the tomato sauce over the meatballs in the casserole dish.

Place mozzarella on top

Cut 200 g of drained buffalo mozzarella into as many slices as there are meatballs and place a slice on each meatball.

Bake casserole

Place the casserole in the preheated oven on the 2nd rack from the bottom for 30 minutes.
