Description

This Louisiana salad is an explosion of flavors and textures that will transport you directly to a New Orleans restaurant. The combination of bourbon and molasses marinated chicken, crispy bacon, and fresh vegetables makes it irresistible. The homemade ranch dressing, creamy and full of flavor, is the icing on the cake. Perfect for a light but substantial meal, or to surprise your guests at an informal dinner. Go ahead and prepare it, it is easier than you imagine and the result is spectacular! Also, you can adjust the ingredients to your liking, adding more or less spice, or substituting chicken for tofu for a vegetarian option.

Ingredients (16 ingredients)

  • 1 piece Chicken breast
  • 30 ml Molasses or cane honey
  • 50 ml Bourbon or whiskey
  • 15 ml Barbecue sauce
  • 150 g Smoked bacon in strips or cubes (bacon)
  • 0.5 piece Red pepper
  • 0.5 piece Carrot
  • 1 bunch Mixed greens (lettuce mix)
  • 100 ml Mayonnaise
  • 100 ml Liquid cream for cooking (or a little less milk)
  • 1 pinch Garlic powder
  • 1 pinch Onion powder
  • 1 pinch Ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 pinch Crispy fried onion
  • 1 chorrito Extra virgin olive oil

Preparation (6 steps)

Marinate the chicken

Dry the clean chicken breast with kitchen paper, cut into bite-sized pieces and season with salt and pepper. In a bowl, beat the molasses with the bourbon or whiskey, barbecue sauce and a splash of olive oil. Add the chicken, stir and cover with film. Let stand for a couple of hours in the refrigerator.

Cook the bacon

Cut the bacon into strips or cubes. Cook in a pan without oil until golden brown and slightly crispy. Drain on absorbent paper.

Cook the chicken

Clean the pan with paper and cook the drained chicken over medium-high heat, letting it brown well on both sides. Remove and reserve.

Prepare the vegetables

Wash the pepper and carrot well, and the lettuces if necessary. Arrange the mixed greens on a large platter or divide into two or more plates, depending on the portions. Peel and finely grate the carrot; cut the pepper into small cubes. Add both to the salad.

Prepare the ranch dressing

Add the mayonnaise, liquid cream, a pinch of salt, freshly ground pepper, garlic powder and onion powder to taste in the bowl. Mix 20 sec./Stufe 4. Adjust consistency and flavor according to personal preferences.

Finish the salad

Add the cooked chicken and bacon to the salad, drizzle a little and top with a good amount of crispy fried onion, taking the leftover sauce to the table.
