Description

This hearty potato casserole with ground meat is a substantial main course, ideal for the colder months. The preparation takes place partly in the Thermomix® and is baked golden brown in the oven. With predominantly waxy potatoes, ground beef, fresh onions and garlic, as well as a creamy sauce, this casserole is a filling dish for the whole family. The preparation time is approximately 85 minutes for 6 servings.

Ingredients (13 ingredients)

  • 1 piece Onion
  • 2 Zehen Garlic
  • 1000 g Potatoes (predominantly waxy)
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 500 g Ground beef
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Flour
  • 400 ml Vegetable broth
  • 200 g Cream
  • 150 g Grated cheese (e.g. Gouda or Emmentaler)
  • 2 tbsp Italian herbs (frozen)
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper

Chop onion and garlic

Place 1 peeled and quartered onion and 2 cloves of garlic in the mixing bowl and chop for 3 sec./speed 5. If necessary, scrape down from the edge with the spatula.

Sauté onion and garlic

Thermomix® Setting

Add 1 tbsp olive oil to the onions and garlic in the mixing bowl and sauté for 3 min./120°C/speed 1.

Brown ground meat

Brown 500 g ground beef in a large pan with some olive oil until crumbly. Add the sautéed onions and garlic from the mixing bowl to the ground beef in the pan and sauté briefly.

Add tomato paste and flour

Add 2 tbsp tomato paste to the ground meat in the pan and sauté briefly. Then dust 1 tbsp flour over it and sauté briefly as well.

Prepare sauce

Add 400 ml vegetable broth and 200 g cream to the ground meat in the pan. Mix everything well and bring to a boil.

Prepare potatoes

Peel 1 kg potatoes and slice thinly with a vegetable slicer.

Mix potatoes and sauce

Add the potato slices to the sauce in the pan, stir and simmer covered for 10 minutes over medium heat until the potatoes are slightly soft.

Season and add herbs

Season the potato-ground meat mixture with salt and pepper. Stir in 2 tbsp Italian herbs (frozen).

Layer casserole

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees top and bottom heat. Pour the potato-ground meat mixture into a casserole dish and spread evenly.

Add cheese and bake

Sprinkle 150 g grated cheese (e.g. Gouda or Emmentaler) over the casserole. Bake the casserole for about 40 minutes until the cheese is golden brown. If necessary, cover with aluminum foil if the cheese gets too dark.
