Description

This recipe for meatballs under a creamy potato dome is a real filler and tastes great to the whole family! I like to make it when it gets colder outside because it warms you from the inside out. The combination of hearty meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce and fluffy mashed potatoes is simply unbeatable. A little grated cheese on top ensures a golden brown crust. The dish can be prepared well, so you only have to put it in the oven shortly before eating. Perfect for a cozy evening!

Ingredients (16 ingredients)

  • 1000 g floury potatoes
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 piece Onions
  • 1 bunch Parsley
  • 400 g Ground beef
  • 1 piece Egg (size M)
  • 2 tbsp Breadcrumbs
  • to taste Pepper
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 2 Dosen chunky tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 pinch Sugar
  • 80 g Butter
  • 100 ml Milk
  • to taste grated nutmeg
  • 100 g grated cheese (e.g. Gouda)

Preparation (10 steps)

Prepare potatoes

Thermomix® Setting
20 min/Varoma/Speed 1 Varoma

Peel, quarter 1 kg floury potatoes and place in the steaming basket. Add 1 liter of water to the mixing bowl, insert the steaming basket and steam for 20 min./Varoma/speed 1.

Prepare onions and parsley

Thermomix® Setting
3 sec/Speed 5

Peel 2 onions, halve and put in the mixing bowl. Chop 3 sec./speed 5. Transfer.

Chop parsley

Thermomix® Setting

Wash 1 bunch of parsley, shake dry, pluck off the leaves and put in the mixing bowl. Chop 3 sec./speed 8. Set aside some for garnish.

Prepare meatballs

Put 400 g ground beef, half of the chopped onions, the parsley (except for some for garnish), 1 egg, 2 tbsp breadcrumbs, salt and pepper in a bowl and knead well. Form 12 balls from the meat mixture.

Fry meatballs

Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan. Fry the meatballs all over for about 7 minutes. Place in a baking dish (approx. 25x35 cm).

Prepare tomato sauce

Put the remaining chopped onions in the mixing bowl, add 2 tbsp oil and sauté for 3 min./120°C/speed 1.

Finish tomato sauce

Thermomix® Setting
5 min/212°F/Speed 1 100

Add 2 cans (à 425 ml) chunky tomatoes, 1 tbsp dried oregano, 1 pinch of sugar, salt and pepper and simmer for 5 min./100°C/speed 1.

Distribute tomato sauce

Pour the tomato sauce over the meatballs in the baking dish.

Prepare mashed potatoes

20 sec/Speed 4

Remove the steaming basket and put the potatoes in the mixing bowl. Add 80 g butter, 100 ml milk, salt and grated nutmeg and mix for 20 sec./speed 4.

Spread and bake mashed potatoes

Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the tomato sauce and meatballs in the baking dish. Sprinkle with 100 g grated cheese and bake in a preheated oven (electric oven: 180°C/convection oven: 160°C) for approx. 30 minutes until golden brown. Serve sprinkled with the remaining parsley.
