This sweet and sour chicken recipe is a family favorite! I've been making it for years, and it's always a hit. The combination of juicy chicken, tangy pineapple, and a flavorful sweet and sour sauce is simply irresistible. It's perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual get-together. The recipe is easy to adapt to your liking – add more vegetables or adjust the sweetness to your taste. The best part? It's ready in under an hour! Serve it with rice for a complete and satisfying meal.

Ingredients (13 ingredients)

  • 1 pound chicken, cut into cubes
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 0.75 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 can pineapple chunks - drained with juice reserved
  • 0.33333333333333 cup tomato soup
  • 1 piece carrot, thinly sliced
  • 0.5 piece onion, cut into chunks
  • 0.5 piece green bell pepper, sliced

Preparation (8 steps)

Marinate Chicken

Cut 1 pound of chicken into cubes and marinate in ¼ cup of soy sauce in a bowl for 30 minutes.

Prepare Vegetables

Thinly slice 1 carrot, cut ½ onion into chunks, and slice ½ green bell pepper. Set aside.

Cook Chicken

Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Remove chicken from soy sauce and cook and stir in the heated skillet until no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear. Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.

Combine Vinegar and Sugar

Add Cornstarch Mixture

Pour the reserved pineapple juice from 1 (8 ounce) can of pineapple chunks and ⅓ cup of tomato soup into the mixing bowl. Simmer for 5 minutes. 5 Min./90°C/Stufe 1
