Description

This savory sweet potato casserole is an absolute highlight for cozy autumn evenings! The combination of sweet sweet potatoes, spicy ground meat, and creamy feta is simply irresistible. I especially like to make it when it's cold outside. The preparation takes a little while, but it's definitely worth the effort. Perfect for those who want to try something new and love sweet potatoes. If you like it vegetarian, you can simply omit the ground meat or replace it with lentils. A great dish that fills you up and makes you happy!

Ingredients (13 ingredients)

  • 600 g Ground beef
  • 750 g Sweet potatoes
  • 150 g Feta
  • 250 g Whipping cream
  • 125 g Mozzarella
  • 2 piece Onions
  • 2 clove Garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • to taste Dried oregano
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • 2 tsp Cornstarch

Preparation (5 steps)

Chop onions and garlic

Peel the onions, halve them and place them in the mixing bowl with the garlic cloves. Chop 3 sec./level 5. Use the spatula to push everything down from the edge.

Prepare ground meat

Brown the ground meat in a large pan with 2 tbsp oil until crumbly. Briefly sauté the onions and garlic from the mixing bowl at the end and add all the ground meat again. Add tomato paste and 2 tsp oregano and sauté briefly. Deglaze with 200 ml water, bring to a boil and season with salt and pepper. Stir 50 ml water and cornstarch until smooth and pour into the sauce. Bring to a boil again and simmer for approx. 2 minutes.

Prepare sweet potatoes

Peel, wash and slice the sweet potatoes into thin slices. Crumble the feta into small pieces. Season the cream with salt and pepper.

Layer casserole

Pour some cream on the bottom of a casserole dish. Layer 1/3 sweet potato slices, half of the ground meat and half of the feta. Add another 1/3 of the sweet potatoes, repeat the layering and finish with sweet potatoes. Pour half of the cream over the top two sweet potato layers. Cut mozzarella into slices and spread on top.

Bake casserole

Bake in a preheated oven (electric oven: 200°C/convection oven: 180°C/gas: see manufacturer) for approx. 50 minutes. If necessary, cover for the last approx. 10 minutes.
