Description

This sweet and sour chicken is a recipe that I often prepare when I want something tasty and quick. The combination of crispy chicken with the sweet and sour sauce is simply delicious. It is ideal for a weeknight dinner or to surprise someone with a different dish. The key is to cut the chicken into pieces of just the right size and fry it until it is golden and crispy. The sauce, with its touch of ketchup, rice vinegar and soy sauce, gives it a unique flavor. Go ahead and try it, you will love it! You can accompany it with white rice for a complete meal.

Ingredients (17 ingredients)

  • 1 piece Chicken breast
  • 80 g Wheat flour
  • 30 g Cornstarch
  • 250 ml Water
  • 2 g Chemical yeast
  • 1 piece Salt
  • 1 piece Pepper
  • 0.5 piece White or red onion
  • 0.5 piece Red pepper
  • 0.5 piece Green pepper
  • 30 ml Ketchup
  • 30 ml White rice vinegar
  • 30 ml Light soy sauce
  • 7 g Sugar
  • 60 ml Water
  • 4 g Cornstarch
  • 1 piece Natural pineapple (optional)

Preparation (9 steps)

Chicken preparation

Cut the chicken breast into medium pieces of approximately 5 cm and season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

Preparation of the batter

Thermomix® Setting

In the Thermomix bowl, add 80 g of wheat flour, 30 g of cornstarch, 2 g of chemical yeast and 250 ml of water. Mix for 10 sec./Stufe 4.

Coat the chicken

Incorporate the chicken pieces into the dough and mix well so that they are completely covered. Let stand for 15 minutes.

Preparation of the vegetables

Cut half of the onion into medium pieces, half of the red pepper into strips and half of the green pepper into strips. Set aside.

Sauce preparation

In a bowl, mix 30 ml of ketchup, 30 ml of white rice vinegar, 30 ml of light soy sauce, 7 g of sugar, 60 ml of water and 4 g of cornstarch. Stir until the cornstarch is completely dissolved. Set aside.

Fry the chicken

Heat plenty of oil in a pan or wok over medium-high heat. Fry the battered chicken until golden brown and crispy. Drain on kitchen paper and set aside.

Sauté the vegetables

Remove almost all the oil from the pan, leaving only a little. Add the onion and peppers and sauté over high heat for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Add the sauce and chicken

Thermomix® Setting
1 min/212°F/Speed 2 100

Pour the sauce into the pan with the vegetables and let it thicken slightly, approximately 1 Min./100°C/Stufe 2. Incorporate the fried chicken and mix carefully so that it is well impregnated with the sauce.

Serve

Serve the sweet and sour chicken immediately. Optionally, natural pineapple in pieces can be added.
