Description

Classic bread dumplings, a hearty side dish.

Ingredients (10 ingredients)

  • 7 Stück Bread rolls from the day before
  • 200 ml Milk
  • 1 Stück Onion
  • 20 g Butter
  • 2 Zweig Parsley
  • 3 Stück Eggs
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Nutmeg
  • Breadcrumbs (if necessary)

Preparation (9 steps)

Prepare bread rolls

Cut the bread rolls from the day before into small cubes and place in a large bowl. Pour half of the milk (100 ml) over the bread roll cubes, mix briefly and let soak.

Chop onion

Peel and halve the onion and place in the mixing bowl. Then chop for 3 sec./speed 5.

Sauté onion

Add the butter (20 g) to the onions in the mixing bowl and sauté for 3 min./120°C/speed 1.

Add parsley

Wash the parsley, shake dry, chop finely and set aside.

Prepare dumpling dough

Add the eggs (3), the remaining milk (100 ml), the sautéed onions and the chopped parsley to the soaked bread roll cubes in the bowl. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg. Mix everything well and knead into a homogeneous dough.

Check and adjust consistency

Check the consistency of the dough. If the dough is too moist, add some breadcrumbs or another bread roll cut into cubes and mix well.

Form dumplings

Form about 12 dumplings from the bread dumpling dough with moistened hands.

Cook dumplings

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully place the formed dumplings in the boiling water. Reduce the heat so that the water only simmers slightly, and let the dumplings simmer in the covered pot for about 20 minutes.

Remove and serve dumplings

Remove the finished bread dumplings from the water with a slotted spoon and serve.
