Description

This aromatic five-spice chicken is a delightful and easy-to-prepare main course, perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual gathering. The chicken thighs are coated in a sticky, flavorful sauce made with hoisin, honey, and Chinese five-spice powder, creating a delicious balance of sweet and savory. The addition of cashews and spring onions adds a lovely crunch and freshness to the dish. I love how simple it is to throw everything together and let the oven do the work! Ingredients (9 ingredients)

  • 8 piece chicken thighs
  • 4 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp clear honey
  • 1.5 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 piece thumb-sized knob of ginger
  • 2 clove garlic
  • 1 bunch spring onions
  • 50 g cashew

Prepare Ginger and Garlic

Place the thumb-sized knob of ginger and 2 garlic cloves into the mixing bowl and chop for 3 sec./Stufe 7.

Combine Sauce Ingredients

Add 4 tbsp hoisin sauce, 2 tsp sesame oil, 2 tbsp clear honey, and 1 ½ tsp Chinese five-spice powder to the mixing bowl. Mix for 10 sec./Stufe 3.

Marinate Chicken

Arrange 8 chicken thighs in a large roasting tin and slash the skin 2-3 times on each thigh. Pour the sauce over the chicken and toss to coat. Marinate the chicken for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results. This step is done outside of the Thermomix.

Roast Chicken

Preheat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Roast the chicken, skin-side up, for 35 mins, basting at least once. This step is done outside of the Thermomix.

Add Cashews and Spring Onions

Stir through 50g cashews and sprinkle a bunch of spring onions over the chicken. Return to the oven for 5 mins. This step is done outside of the Thermomix.
