About this recipe

The nibble spiders are an integral part of every Halloween party in our house and are always a highlight at children's birthdays. The idea came about a few years ago when I was looking for a simple but effective snack that would appeal to both children and adults. I wanted something that not only tasted good, but also looked good and was quick to prepare. And that's how the nibble spiders were born! The basis of these little delicacies are round crackers. They provide the necessary crunch and offer a neutral base on which the other flavors can unfold. I prefer salty crackers because they form a nice contrast to the creamy cream cheese. The cream cheese with herbs is the heart of the spiders. It provides the creaminess and the spicy taste. The herbs contained in the cream cheese give the whole thing a fresh note. Black sesame seeds serve as pupils for the spider eyes and bring an additional nutty taste and a nice visual accent into play. Finally, the pretzel sticks are the spider legs. They provide the extra salty kick and the necessary bite. The preparation with the Thermomix® is very simple. First, the cream cheese is briefly stirred in the mixing bowl to make it nice and creamy. Here it is important to keep the time and speed exactly so that the cream cheese does not become too liquid. Five seconds on speed 3 are ideal. Then the cream cheese is transferred and the crackers can be decorated. When applying the cream cheese dots for the eyes, a small piping bag or simply a teaspoon helps. The pretzel sticks are broken or cut into pieces about 3 cm long. Here it is important that the pieces are about the same length so that the spider legs look even later. Finally, the spiders are put together. The remaining cream cheese is spread on the crackers, the pretzel sticks are pressed into the cream cheese as legs and the decorated crackers are placed on top with the eyes. The recipe is already suitable for a vegetarian variant. If you like it vegan, you can replace the cream cheese with a vegan cream cheese alternative. You can also vary the herbs in the cream cheese. Instead of herb cream cheese, you can also use pure cream cheese and refine it with fresh herbs such as chives, parsley or dill. Garlic or chili also go well with the cream cheese and give the spiders a spicy note. The nibble spiders are a great snack for parties and children's birthdays. But they can also be served as a small snack in between or as a side dish for dinner. Vegetable sticks or a dip, for example, go well with this. The nibble spiders can be prepared well. The decorated crackers with the eyes can be prepared the day before. The pretzel sticks can also be broken into pieces beforehand. However, the finished spiders should not be stored for too long, as the crackers will otherwise soften due to the cream cheese. They taste best freshly prepared. If there is anything left over, the spiders can be stored in the refrigerator.
