Description

These Indian flatbreads, also known as Chapati, are an absolute must with curries and other spicy dishes! I have been making them myself for some time and am always thrilled at how easy and quick they are to prepare. The secret lies in the right ratio of flour and water, so that the dough becomes smooth but not sticky. The Chapatis are vegan and taste best warm. They are a great addition to any meal and can also be prepared well in advance. Try it, it's worth it!

Ingredients (4 ingredients)

  • 100 g Spelt flour
  • 100 g Wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 0.5 tsp Salt, level

Preparation (5 steps)

Mix flour and salt

Thermomix® Setting

Put 100 g spelt flour, 100 g wheat flour and 0.5 tsp level salt into the mixing bowl and mix for 10 sec./speed 4.

Add oil

Thermomix® Setting

Add 1 tbsp olive oil and stir in for 5 sec./speed 3.

Knead dough

Thermomix® Setting
2 min/Kneading speed

Add some lukewarm water and knead for 2 min./kneading stage. Repeat this process until the dough is bound but not sticky. The amount of water may vary.

Portion and shape dough

Remove the dough from the mixing bowl and divide into about 8 equal portions. Form each portion into a ball.

Roll out and bake flatbreads

Preheat a medium-sized frying pan (without oil!). Roll out the dough balls individually very thinly (about 2 mm) with a rolling pin. Bake flatbreads one after the other in the hot pan without oil on the highest setting. When bubbles form in the dough, turn the flatbread and fry briefly on the other side. As a rule, you need less than a minute per flatbread.
