Description

This hearty ground meat and potato casserole is real comfort food! I especially like to make it in the fall when it gets colder outside. The ground meat is braised with onions, mushrooms and carrots in a delicious herbal broth and covered with a creamy mashed potato. The grated cheese ensures a golden brown crust. An absolute favorite dish that can also be prepared well in advance. A fresh green salad goes well with it. The recipe can be easily varied with other vegetables, such as peas or peppers.

Ingredients (13 ingredients)

  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 450 g Ground beef or ground lamb
  • 1 piece Onion(s), finely diced
  • 50 g Mushrooms
  • 2 piece Carrot(s) in thin slices
  • 1 piece Bay leaves
  • 2 tbsp Flour
  • 1 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 200 ml Broth herbal bouillon
  • 700 g Potato(es), peeled, cut into pieces
  • 25 g Butter
  • 50 g Cheese, grated
  • Milk

Preparation (8 steps)

Prepare vegetables

Peel and quarter the onion. Clean and halve the mushrooms. Peel and slice the carrots. Peel and chop the potatoes.

Chop onions

Place the onions in the mixing bowl and chop for 3 sec./level 5. Push down with the spatula.

Sauté ground meat and vegetables

Add oil, ground meat, mushrooms, carrots and bay leaf to the onions in the mixing bowl and sauté for 8 min./120°C/level 1/reverse.

Prepare sauce

25 min/212°F/Speed 1/Linkslauf 100 Reverse

Add flour and tomato paste and sauté for 2 min./120°C/level 1/reverse. Pour in the herbal bouillon and simmer for 25 min./100°C/level 1/reverse.

Cook potatoes

20 min/Varoma/Speed 1 Varoma

Meanwhile, place the potato pieces in the simmering basket. Add 500 ml of water to the mixing bowl, insert the simmering basket and cook for 20 min./Varoma/level 1.

Prepare mashed potatoes

Thermomix® Setting
20 sec/Speed 4

Remove the simmering basket and place the potatoes in the mixing bowl. Add butter and milk and process into mashed potatoes for 20 sec./level 4. Season with salt.

Layer casserole

Preheat the oven to 200 °C top/bottom heat. Remove bay leaf from the mixing bowl and season the meat with salt and pepper. Place the meat-vegetable mixture in a prepared casserole dish (approx. 1.7 liters) and cover with the mashed potatoes. Sprinkle with cheese.

Bake casserole

Bake in the preheated oven for approx. 15 - 20 min. until the cheese is golden brown.
