About this recipe

This recipe for savory Camembert tomato bread came about when I was standing in front of the fridge again, wondering what to do with the leftovers. A piece of Camembert, a few tomatoes, some garlic - the ingredients were practically screaming to be combined. And since I love bread, the idea for a quick, gratinated bread was born. It is a dish that is reminiscent of uncomplicated evenings with friends, where you simply sit together, laugh and enjoy good food. The list of ingredients is deliberately kept short, but each individual component makes a decisive contribution to the taste experience. The tomatoes, preferably aromatic vine tomatoes, bring a fruity acidity and juiciness into play, which harmonizes perfectly with the creamy Camembert. The garlic provides a pleasant spice and a slightly spicy note that rounds off the dish. And the mixed rye bread, with its slightly sour note and its firm crust, forms the ideal base for this savory creation. It withstands the weight of the ingredients and becomes nice and crispy when gratinated. The Thermomix® makes preparation incredibly easy. Chopping the garlic is lightning fast and even, which ensures optimal flavor distribution. Make sure not to mix the garlic for too long, as it can otherwise become bitter. After chopping, you should scrape the garlic from the edge with the spatula to ensure that it is evenly distributed. You can let your creativity run wild when topping the breads. Spread the tomato slices evenly on the breads and season generously with pepper and salt. The chopped garlic should also be distributed evenly to ensure a harmonious taste experience. Cut the Camembert into slices and place on the tomatoes. Make sure that the Camembert does not protrude beyond the edge of the breads, as it could otherwise drip down during gratinating. For a vegetarian version, you can simply replace the Camembert with another cheese of your choice, such as mozzarella or feta. For a vegan version, there are now many delicious vegan Camembert alternatives that are ideal for this recipe. You can also vary the spices. Fresh herbs such as basil or oregano go perfectly with tomatoes and Camembert. A touch of chili provides a pleasant spiciness. The gratinated Camembert tomato bread tastes best warm, straight from the oven. It is ideal as a small snack in between meals, as a side dish for grilling or as a hearty dinner. A fresh salad or a glass of wine goes well with it. Leftovers of the gratinated bread can be stored in the refrigerator. It still tastes good cold the next day, or you can heat it up briefly in the oven or in the microwave. You can also prepare the breads and keep them in the refrigerator until gratinating. This way you have a delicious snack for unexpected guests in no time at all.
