About this recipe

This compote fruit drink is a memory of my childhood for me. My grandma always prepared a similar drink in the winter to provide us with vitamins and make the cold days a little more comfortable. Her recipe was of course a secret, but I have tried to recreate it as closely as possible with this recipe. The dried apricots form the sweet base of the drink. They give it a pleasant, slightly sour note and a certain fullness. The dried apples contribute a subtle sweetness and a slightly mealy texture that gives the drink body. The cranberries, although in smaller quantities, are crucial for the slightly tart, fruity note that makes the drink so special. They perfectly balance the sweetness of the other fruits. The sugar of course serves as a sweetener, but it also helps to intensify the flavors of the fruits. The water is the base of the drink and ensures that all flavors combine well. The lemon juice at the end brings a fresh acidity into play, which makes the drink more vibrant and softens the sweetness somewhat. When preparing in the Thermomix®, it is important not to cut the fruit too small, as they will soften during cooking anyway. The reverse rotation is crucial so that the fruits are not crushed, but retain their shape and only become soft. Make sure that the mixing bowl is properly closed, as the drink will become hot during cooking. After cooking, the drink should cool down a little before adding the lemon juice, as the heat can impair the aroma of the lemon juice. This recipe is naturally vegetarian and vegan. For a sugar-free version, the sugar can be replaced with stevia or erythritol. If you like it a little spicier, you can cook a cinnamon stick, a few cloves or a pinch of cardamom. A small piece of ginger also goes perfectly with this drink. The compote fruit drink can be served warm or cold. Warm, it is a comforting treat, especially on cold days. Cold, it is a refreshing thirst quencher. A few almond slivers or a dollop of yogurt go well with it. A piece of lemon or orange as a garnish also looks good. The drink will keep in the refrigerator for about 3-4 days. It can also be prepared in larger quantities and frozen in portions. So you always have a healthy and delicious drink at hand. For a longer shelf life, the drink can also be preserved after cooling.
