Description

This avocado banana smoothie is a real power drink! I often make it when I need a quick energy boost, whether before exercise or simply as a satisfying snack. The combination of creamy avocado and sweet banana is simply unbeatable. With well-chilled milk or oat drink, it is wonderfully refreshing. If you like it sweeter, you can add some honey or another sweetener. A touch of cinnamon rounds it off perfectly. And the best thing: it is super quick to prepare!

About this recipe

This creamy avocado banana kick is more than just a smoothie for me – it's a small, liquid energy booster that I've reinvented over the years. It all started with the desire to integrate healthy fats and vitamins into my morning without having to forego something delicious. The avocado, which I initially eyed with some skepticism, turned out to be a true all-rounder. The avocado is the star of this smoothie. It not only provides healthy fats that keep you full for a long time, but also ensures an incredibly creamy texture that is otherwise difficult to achieve in a smoothie. Make sure to use a ripe but not overripe avocado. It should give way to slight pressure but have no dark spots. The banana contributes the sweetness and an additional creamy note. A small, ripe banana is ideal because it tastes more intense and mixes better. The well-chilled milk or oat drink serves as a base and ensures the desired consistency. I prefer oat drink because it has a slightly nutty note that harmonizes well with avocado and banana, making it a vegan option. A teaspoon of honey is optional, but it enhances the sweetness and rounds off the taste. And the cinnamon? That's the icing on the cake! It gives the smoothie a warm, spicy note that is especially good on colder days. Preparation in the Thermomix® is very easy. First, I peel and pit the avocado and cut it roughly. The banana is also peeled and broken into pieces. Then I add all the ingredients – avocado, banana, milk or oat drink, honey and cinnamon – to the mixing bowl. It is important that the milk or oat drink is really well chilled, as this underlines the freshness of the smoothie. Then I mix everything for 20 seconds on speed 8. If the smoothie does not yet have the desired consistency, you can add a few ice cubes and mix for another 5 seconds on speed 8. Be careful not to mix for too long, otherwise the smoothie might get warm. This smoothie is incredibly versatile. For a vegan version, simply use oat drink, almond milk or another plant-based milk and replace the honey with agave syrup or maple syrup. If you like to experiment, you can also add a spoonful of peanut butter, a few leaves of spinach or some ginger. You can also play with different spices: cardamom, nutmeg or a pinch of chili are excellent. I prefer to serve the avocado banana kick immediately after preparation, as it is then at its freshest and creamiest. But you can also store it in a sealed container in the refrigerator, but it should be consumed within 24 hours, otherwise it will lose its color and consistency. A few nuts or seeds that you can sprinkle over the smoothie or a piece of wholemeal toast go well as a side dish. It is also a great addition to a muesli or porridge. For longer preparation, you can freeze the avocado and banana in pieces and then add them directly frozen to the Thermomix®. This saves time and ensures an extra cold smoothie.
