Description

This date cream cheese dip with curry is a real treat! The sweetness of the dates harmonizes wonderfully with the spice of the curry powder and the slight spiciness of the cayenne pepper. I love making this dip when I invite friends over. It is quick to prepare and always well received. It tastes particularly delicious with crackers, vegetable sticks or bread. If you like it a little milder, you can also leave out the cayenne pepper. An absolute must for any party or as a delicious snack in between!

Ingredients (8 ingredients)

  • 300 g Cream cheese
  • 150 g Dates, pitted
  • 150 g Greek yogurt, 10% fat
  • 3 tsp Curry powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 knife tip Cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp Lime juice
  • to taste Black pepper from the mill

Preparation (4 steps)

Chop dates

Thermomix® Setting
5 sec/Speed 5

Place 150g pitted dates in the mixing bowl and chop for 5 sec./speed 5. If necessary, use the spatula to push down from the edge and repeat the process until the dates are finely chopped.

Puree dates with yogurt

Thermomix® Setting
20 sec/Speed 8

Add 150g Greek yogurt (10% fat) to the chopped dates in the mixing bowl and puree for 20 sec./speed 8 until a creamy mass is formed. If necessary, use the spatula to push down from the edge and repeat the process.

Finish dip

Thermomix® Setting
15 sec/Speed 4

Add 300g cream cheese, 3 tsp curry powder, 1 tsp salt, 1 pinch of cayenne pepper, 1 tsp lime juice and some black pepper from the mill to the mixing bowl and stir for 15 sec./speed 4 until all ingredients are well mixed. Push down from the edge with the spatula and stir briefly again if necessary.

Season and serve

Season the date cream cheese dip with curry to taste and decorate with some curry powder and whole dates if desired. Refrigerate the dip for at least 30 minutes before serving.

This date cream cheese dip with curry is a creation that arose out of the need to conjure up something new and exciting for a spontaneous girls' night. I still had dates and cream cheese in the fridge and wanted to combine something sweet and savory. The result blew us all away! Since then, it has been an integral part of my repertoire when it comes to quick and delicious dips. The base of this dip is cream cheese. I prefer a double cream level here, as it is particularly creamy and gives the dip a nice, full texture. The dates, preferably Medjool dates, contribute the sweetness. They should definitely be pitted before they go into the Thermomix®. The Greek yogurt, with its higher fat content, provides additional creaminess and a slightly sour note that perfectly balances the sweetness of the dates. The curry powder is the heart of the spice. You can vary this according to taste. I like to use a mild curry mixture that is not too spicy but still offers a complex range of aromas. Salt and pepper are of course essential to enhance and round off the flavors. The cayenne pepper brings a pleasant spiciness into play, which should not be too dominant. A pinch is usually enough, but if you like it spicier, you can of course use a little more. The lime juice provides a fresh, citrus note that makes the dip even more vibrant. When preparing in the Thermomix®, it is important to chop the dates really finely before adding the yogurt. Otherwise, small pieces can remain that impair the texture of the dip. After pureeing with the yogurt, a homogeneous, creamy mass should be created. If not, simply puree for a few seconds longer. When stirring in the cream cheese, make sure that all ingredients are well mixed. Here it is important not to stir for too long, otherwise the cream cheese may become too liquid. Pushing down from the edge with the spatula helps to distribute all the ingredients evenly. The recipe is already suitable for a vegetarian version. For a vegan version, you can replace the cream cheese and yogurt with vegan alternatives based on cashew or almond. In terms of taste, you can experiment with different curry mixtures. A Madras curry mixture provides more spiciness, while a Garam Masala mixture brings warmer, spicier notes. The addition of roasted almonds or walnuts also provides an interesting crunch. This date cream cheese dip with curry is incredibly versatile. It tastes great with crackers, vegetable sticks such as carrots, cucumbers or peppers, but also with bread or baguette. It also goes well with grilled food or as a dip for falafel. If you like it a little more unusual, you can also use it as a filling for dates. The dip should be left to infuse in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving so that the flavors can fully develop. It can be kept in the refrigerator for 2-3 days, well closed. It can also be prepared well in advance and taken out of the refrigerator shortly before serving. Before serving, you can decorate it with a little curry powder and whole dates.
