Description

This layered pasta bake is a family favorite! I've been making it for years, and it's always a hit. The rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta filling, and bubbly mozzarella topping make it incredibly satisfying. It's perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a special occasion like a birthday or Christmas gathering. While it takes a little time to assemble, the result is well worth the effort. You can even prepare it ahead of time and bake it later. This hearty dish is sure to please everyone at the table!

Ingredients (16 ingredients)

  • 9 piece lasagna noodles
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound bulk Italian sausage
  • 4 can tomato sauce
  • 1 can sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 0.5 tsp dried thyme
  • 0.25 tsp dried basil
  • salt
  • ground black pepper
  • 1 container ricotta cheese
  • 3 piece large eggs, beaten
  • 0.33333333333333 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 pound shredded mozzarella cheese

Preparation (7 steps)

Prepare the meat sauce

In a large pot, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess grease. This step is done outside of the Thermomix to ensure proper browning of the meat.

Add sauce and seasonings

Add the tomato sauce, sliced mushrooms, garlic salt, dried oregano, dried thyme, and dried basil to the pot with the cooked meat. Season with salt and ground black pepper to taste. Stir to combine.

Simmer the meat sauce

Simmer the meat sauce for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This step is done outside of the Thermomix to allow the flavors to meld together.

Cook the lasagna noodles

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook the lasagna noodles with olive oil in the boiling water, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain the noodles and set aside.

Prepare the ricotta mixture

In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, beaten eggs, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well until fully combined.

Assemble the lasagna

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Cover the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish with a thin layer of meat sauce. Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread about 1/3 of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles. Sprinkle about 1/4 of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the ricotta. Spoon about 1/3 of the meat sauce over the mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layering twice more, finishing with the remaining mozzarella cheese.

Bake the lasagna

Bake in the preheated oven until the cheese melts and the sauce bubbles, about 90 minutes. If the cheese begins to get too dark, cover the lasagna with foil. Let the lasagna sit for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
