Description

This Blueberry Hibiscus Iced Tea is an absolute summer hit! The combination of fruity blueberries, the slightly tart hibiscus note and the small chia seeds makes it a special taste experience. I love making this iced tea on hot days, it's so refreshing and easy to make. The preparation does not take long, but the cooling time is important so that the flavors can fully develop. Perfect for a little break or as an accompaniment to brunch. If you like it a little sweeter, you can add a little more vanilla sugar.

About this recipe

This blueberry hibiscus iced tea is more than just a drink to me, it's a piece of summer memory. I drank it for the first time in a small café on the Baltic Sea, during a vacation with my family. The sun was shining, the seagulls were screeching and this iced tea was the perfect refreshment. Since then, I've been trying to recapture that vacation feeling with every sip. The ingredients play a crucial role. The hibiscus tea forms the base with its slightly tart, floral note. It brings a pleasant depth to the iced tea, which sets it apart from simple fruit juices. The vanilla sugar rounds off the acidity and provides a subtle sweetness that is not too intrusive. The fresh blueberries are of course the star! They not only provide the intense color, but also a fruity, slightly tart taste that harmonizes perfectly with the hibiscus. The chia seeds may be an unusual ingredient, but they provide an interesting texture and deliver valuable nutrients. They swell in the iced tea and give it a slightly gel-like consistency that I really like. And the mint? It is the icing on the cake, giving the iced tea a fresh, invigorating note. When preparing in the Thermomix®, there are a few things to keep in mind. It is important that the hibiscus tea cools down really well before mixing it with the remaining ingredients. Otherwise, the ice will melt too quickly and the iced tea will become watery. When pureeing the blueberries, make sure that they are really finely pureed so that the juice can be easily separated from the pulp. Passing it through a fine sieve is important to remove the small seeds, which could otherwise interfere with the drinking pleasure. And when stirring at the end, level 3 is completely sufficient to mix all the ingredients well without damaging the chia seeds too much. There are many variations! If you like it vegan, you can use agave syrup or maple syrup instead of vanilla sugar. For an even more intense blueberry note, you can also use frozen blueberries that you lightly thaw before pureeing. If you like it a little spicier, you can add a pinch of cardamom or cinnamon. And if you don't have fresh mint on hand, you can also use dried mint, which is best added when brewing the hibiscus tea. The iced tea is best served in tall glasses with lots of ice cubes. A few fresh blueberries and a sprig of mint as a garnish make it an eye-catcher. Light snacks such as fruit salad, yogurt with granola or small sandwiches go well with it. But on a hot summer day, it is also a pleasure to enjoy it pure. The iced tea can be kept in the refrigerator well closed for about 2-3 days. However, the color may change somewhat over time. It is best to prepare it fresh. But you can also prepare it well by preparing the hibiscus tea and blueberry juice the day before and storing it in the refrigerator. Then all you have to do the next day is mix everything together and serve with ice. This is how the refreshing blueberry hibiscus iced tea is prepared quickly and easily and provides a welcome cooling on hot days.
