Description

This toasted sandwich with béchamel gratin is a revisited classic, perfect for a gourmet lunch or a friendly brunch. I love preparing this recipe because it is simple and quick, while being incredibly tasty. The wholemeal bread provides a soft texture, while the ham and melted cheese create an irresistible combination. The béchamel, prepared in the Thermomix®, is smooth and flavored with nutmeg. A real treat for the taste buds! Feel free to use different types of cheeses to vary the pleasures. Accompanied by a green salad, it is a complete and balanced meal.

Ingredients (8 ingredients)

  • 8 slice wholemeal bread
  • 200 g cooked ham
  • 100 g freshly grated Comté or Cantal or Gruyère
  • 30 g butter
  • 30 g flour
  • 30 cl semi-skimmed milk
  • 1 pinch fine salt
  • 1 pinch nutmeg

Preparation of the béchamel

Thermomix® Setting
3 min/140°F/Speed 2 60

Put the butter in the Thermomix bowl and melt for 3 Min./60°C/Stufe 2.

Adding flour

Thermomix® Setting
20 sec/Speed 3

Add the flour to the bowl and mix for 20 Sek./Stufe 3.

Cooking the béchamel

Thermomix® Setting
7 min/194°F/Speed 4 90

Add the milk, salt and nutmeg to the bowl. Cook for 7 Min./90°C/Stufe 4.

Cooling the béchamel

Pour the béchamel into a bowl, cover with cling film in contact and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.

Assembly of the toasted sandwiches

Spread a little more than half of the grated cheese on half of the slices of bread. Add the ham on the grated cheese. Cover the garnished slices with the rest of the bread, béchamel-coated side against the filling. Press to close the toasted sandwiches well.

Béchamel topping

Spread the remaining béchamel on top of each toasted sandwich.

Cheese gratin

Add the remaining grated cheese on each toasted sandwich.

Baking in the oven

Place the toasted sandwiches on a baking sheet covered with baking paper and bake in a traditional oven preheated to 200°C for about 12 minutes, until golden brown.
