This classic potato salad is a crowd-pleaser, perfect for potlucks, barbecues, or any summer gathering. I've been making this recipe for years, and it's always a hit! The potatoes are tender and flavorful, thanks to a tangy marinade. The addition of diced onions and celery seed adds a delightful crunch and aroma. It's best served chilled, making it a refreshing side dish. This recipe is easily adaptable – feel free to add chopped celery or hard-boiled eggs for extra texture and flavor. It's a vegetarian-friendly option that's sure to be a hit with everyone!

Ingredients (8 ingredients)

  • 10 pound potatoes
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup white wine vinegar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 piece onions, diced
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon celery seed
  • 2 cup mayonnaise

Cook the potatoes

Thermomix® Setting

Place 1 cup of water into the mixing bowl. Place 10 pounds of potatoes, peeled and quartered, into the simmering basket. Cook for 20 Min./Varoma/Stufe 1. Check if the potatoes are tender. If not, cook for another 5 Min./Varoma/Stufe 1.

Cool and slice the potatoes

Remove the simmering basket with the potatoes and let them cool completely. Once cooled, slice the potatoes into bite-sized pieces and place them in a large bowl.

Prepare the marinade

Thermomix® Setting
1 min/212°F/Speed 2 100

Add 1 cup of water, 1 cup of white wine vinegar, and 1 cup of white sugar to the mixing bowl. Cook for 1 Min./100°C/Stufe 2.

Marinate the potatoes

Pour the hot marinade over the sliced potatoes. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 12 hours.

Finalize the salad

Drain any excess marinade from the potatoes. Add 2 diced onions, salt and pepper to taste, 1 tablespoon of celery seed, and 2 cups of mayonnaise to the bowl. Mix gently but thoroughly to combine all ingredients.

Chill and serve

Refrigerate the potato salad for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together. Serve chilled.
