About this recipe

Flammkuchen rolls are a wonderful way for me to enjoy the taste of a classic Flammkuchen in a handy format. I still remember my first Flammkuchen in a small Alsatian village. The smell of freshly baked dough, bacon and onions hung in the air and the taste was simply unforgettable. These rolls are a tribute to that experience, only much faster and easier to prepare. The ingredients play a crucial role. The bake-off rolls form the base and should be of good quality. They shouldn't be too sweet, as the topping is already savory enough. The spring onions bring a fresh, slightly spicy note to the dish. They are finely chopped in the Thermomix® so that they combine optimally with the sour cream. The sour cream ensures the creaminess and binding of the topping. It should be full-fat to achieve the best taste and the right consistency. The grated Gouda contributes the spicy cheese taste and ensures the golden brown crust when baking. The preparation in the Thermomix® is very simple. Make sure not to chop the spring onions for too long, as they could otherwise become mushy. The sour cream mixture should not be stirred for too long, as it could otherwise become too liquid. When adding the Gouda, it is important that it is well stirred in so that it is evenly distributed. The topped rolls should be baked in the preheated oven until the cheese has melted and is lightly browned. The baking time may vary depending on the oven, so it is important to keep an eye on the rolls. For a vegetarian version, you can replace the Gouda with another cheese, such as mozzarella or Emmentaler. For a vegan version, you can use vegan sour cream and vegan cheese. Instead of spring onions, you can also use other vegetables, such as peppers or mushrooms. For a spicier version, you can add some garlic powder, paprika powder or chili. The Flammkuchen rolls are ideal as finger food for parties, as a starter or for a quick breakfast. You can enjoy them pure or serve them with a fresh salad. A glass of Federweißer or a cold beer goes perfectly with it. The topped rolls taste best fresh from the oven. But you can also prepare them and store them in the refrigerator. Before baking, they should then take on some room temperature. You can store baked rolls in the refrigerator and briefly bake them before consumption.
