Description

This Tunisian chicken with aromatic rice is a single dish rich in flavors and aromas. The recipe, inspired by North African tradition, combines the delicacy of the chicken with the fragrance of the rice, all enriched with spices and a spicy touch. I often prepare it when I want a comforting and tasty dish, perfect for a family dinner or with friends. The harissa sauce gives an unmistakable flavor, while the green peppers add a fresh and crunchy note. It is a dish that is prepared in a short time and that warms the heart, ideal for autumn evenings. You can vary the amount of harissa according to personal taste, for a more or less spicy touch.

Ingredients (12 ingredients)

  • 250 g Rice
  • 500 g Chicken
  • 0.5 piece Onions
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Harissa sauce
  • 750 ml Water
  • 1 pinch Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Tebel
  • 2 piece Green cornetto peppers
  • 30 ml Extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 pinch Salt

Preparation (9 steps)

Preparation of the onions and garlic

Half an onion and 1 clove of garlic, peeled, into the bowl. Chop finely for 3 Sek./Stufe 7.

Sauté the onions and garlic

Add 30 ml of extra virgin olive oil and sauté for 3 Min./120°C/Stufe 1.

Brown the chicken

Add 500g of chicken cut into pieces in the bowl and brown for 5 Min./120°C/Linkslauf Stufe 1.

Adding tomato paste and harissa

Thermomix® Setting
1 min/212°F/Linkslauf Speed 1 100 Reverse

Add 2 tablespoons of tomato paste and 1 teaspoon of harissa sauce in the bowl. Mix for 1 Min./100°C/Linkslauf Stufe 1.

Cooking the chicken with water and spices

Thermomix® Setting
15 min/212°F/Linkslauf Speed 1 100 Reverse

Add 250 ml of water, 1 pinch of chili powder and 1 teaspoon of tebel in the bowl. Cook for 15 Min./100°C/Linkslauf Stufe 1.

Cooking the rice in the Varoma

30 min/Varoma/Speed 1 Varoma

Pour 250g of rice into the Varoma. Add 500 ml of water into the bowl. Place the Varoma on top of the bowl and cook for 30 Min./Varoma/Stufe 1.

Adding the peppers and completing the cooking

10 min/212°F/Linkslauf Speed 1 100 Reverse

Remove the Varoma. Add 2 green cornetto peppers cut into pieces in the bowl with the chicken. Cook for another 10 Min./100°C/Linkslauf Stufe 1.

Seasoning the rice

Thermomix® Setting
10 sec/Speed 2

Transfer the cooked rice to a bowl. Take the pieces of chicken and the cornetto peppers from the bowl and set them aside. Season the rice with the sauce remaining in the bowl and mix gently for 10 Sek./Stufe 2.

Plating

Arrange a portion of seasoned rice in each plate. Place a piece of chicken and a cornetto pepper on top. Serve hot.
