About this recipe

For me, smoothies are more than just a trend. They are a reminder of my student days, when time and money were tight, but the desire for healthy eating was still great. Back then, the Thermomix® was still a thing of the future, but a simple mixer did the trick too. This berry smoothie is a tribute to that time, only in the luxury version with the Thermomix®. The main protagonists of this smoothie are of course the berries. I prefer a mixture of raspberries, blueberries, strawberries and blackberries. The raspberries bring a pleasant acidity, the blueberries a slightly tart sweetness, the strawberries a fruity note and the blackberries a certain depth. Frozen berries are ideal because they make the smoothie nice and cool and give it a creamy consistency. But fresh berries work just as well, especially in summer when they are in season. Then you can add a few ice cubes to reach the desired temperature. The plant-based drink serves as a base and provides the necessary liquid. I like to alternate between almond, soy and oat drink. Almond drink has a slightly nutty taste that goes well with the berries. Soy drink is a little more neutral and makes the smoothie particularly creamy. Oat drink brings a slight sweetness with it and is a good option if you want to avoid added sugar. Here you can vary according to your personal taste. The maple syrup is optional, but I think it rounds off the taste perfectly. It gives the smoothie a subtle sweetness that highlights the flavors of the berries. But you can also replace it with agave syrup, honey (not vegan!) or date syrup. If you like it completely natural, you can leave it out or add half a banana instead. The preparation in the Thermomix® is very simple. Put all the ingredients in the mixing bowl and then it's: Full throttle! 30 seconds on speed 10 is usually enough to conjure up a creamy smoothie. If you like it even finer, you can extend the time a little. It is important that the mixing bowl is clean and dry before you start. There are countless variations. For an extra portion of protein, you can add a spoonful of protein powder. Chia seeds or flax seeds provide additional fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. A few leaves of fresh mint or basil give the smoothie a special freshness. And if you like it a little more exotic, you can add a pinch of cinnamon or cardamom. The smoothie is best served immediately after preparation. It tastes pure, but also garnished with a few fresh berries or a mint leaf. A few nuts or seeds go well as a side dish. The smoothie does not keep well, as it loses color and consistency over time. So it's best to drink it straight after preparation. But you can prepare the ingredients and store them in a container in the refrigerator. This saves time and you always have a healthy snack ready.
